New to Reloading, How do I find Components?

I’ve got trades if you can’t wait a year or two to reload...

seriously, it’s like having cereal but no milk, salt but no pepper, toast but no butter.

you will likely have to buy components at a MUCH higher inflated price right now so if you think you are saving any type of money loading on your own, you will sorely be mistaken.

I wish you luck on the adventure for sure though
Loading for economy is a nonstarter for the foreseeable future.

Thats not fake news...you never save money reloading anyway, you just shoot more...any how, you might have an easier time (easy being a relative term) finding reloading components even in this current environment than factory ammo.

And even at the current inflated prices reloaded ammo might still be cheaper (cheaper being a relative term) than factory ammo.

And if you can’t find factory ammo anywhere than it’s a moo point (yes I know that’s not the saying I did it on purpose, relax). So reloaded ammo is the better deal no matter the price.

I’ve run across a lot of factory ammo in the last week at not too terrible pricing.

Scored a few boxes of 9mm on election night for $12 a pop and passed on these last night.

Stuff is still coming out but price is depending on the seller these days.

HairlessBigfoot HairlessBigfoot I like to check these places on a regular basis for components and reloading equipment. I did just buy 2k projectiles Saturday morning and another 2k last night for not so bad prices.

I also like to use this one for quick load ideas for specific bullet grains and powder. I found 5 1lb bottles of CFE Pistol for $23 per and 147gr Hornady XTP’s for $19 per 100

those two are listed in the quick recipe guide.

Even if SPP are $100 per 1K, you can still load 9mm coated lead bullets for $0.20 a round. That's cheaper than the average ODT price of $0.50 per round. With a savings of $300 per thousand, you should be able to pay for that Dillon 750 after reloading 4K rounds.

I would jump on those primers as soon as they are available and pick up all the free range brass you can find. Powder and projectiles are easy to source if you are not picky on brand.

Here's a link to Dillon's Reloading Cost calculator if you want to run the numbers.

I reload mouse fart loads only during times of component shortages. Even at inflated prices, 223, 9mm, etc can be bought more cheaply AND sold if surplus to my needs. Any reloads can not be sold.

Mouse farts can not be bought anywhere at any price, and make 308, 30-30, 30-06 very, very quiet.

I picked the absolute worst time to get into reloading, I know it’s a long shot. But I’m in search of primers, brass and dies for .223 and 9mm.

I can acquire powder and projectiles, but that’s all I can find!

The white box arrives Wednesday! (Not my shop)

wait til 2024, will probably become available by then

As others have stated if you have the money and want to load now.. $80-$100/1k on most all primers. If you have a lot of free time bookmark ammoseek primers "small" and "large" separately and check often daily. Also grafs, powder valley, and natchez because a lot of the times they will be in stock momentarily without ammo seek, wikiarms, or gun.deals seeing them. But you must be quick to act. I got snaked on a case of small pistol on Brownells yesterday by a damn re-captcha! By the time I got to pay, boom "cart updated unavailable items removed" talking 50sec. From popping up! But $221 shipped for 5k is a hell of a lot better than current asking prices. I have enough for some time but still would like to replace any used.. I've also purchased primed brass from all over and removed the primers and sold the brass for free or almost free primers. Best of luck in your search.

Suggest two different approaches between bullet pulling and de-capping. For bullet pulling I think the best way is to use a cheap inertia puller. Put the round in the back of a hammer like device & pound against something hard like a floor until the projectile comes out of the case. I've put a rubber or cork stopper in the bottom to soften impact when the projectile comes loose. Keeps from damaging the loose projectile. Just use a steel case holder instead of the flimsy aluminum holder included. For decapping, I'd suggest the cheapest Lee single stage press you can get. It gets filthy with fired/range brass so you don't want to use it for reloading. Both ways have worked well for me without any problems.

I've reloaded many years. have had dillons but I don't think that's the right press for a beginner. I think you need to learn the process, make mistakes etc. You need to know the feel of a primer that's right & one that's wrong. I am not knocking the dillon, it's a great press and really spits out loaded ammo. But YOU need to be at a higher skill level so you don't have hundreds of mistakes versus just a few.
