Men over 50 should not use a chainsaw.

Sadly, no. It was the same thing that happened to my brother in his late 20's. Decided to climb an extension ladder to take out a large, high limb. Limb swung down and took out him and the ladder.

In my brother's case, his wife was terrified and called me over before the cutting. I convinced him to rig a safety line and tie a basket harness (we learned from rappelling). I held the ladder and he cut the limb. As I had feared, the limb swung down and smashed into the ladder. Knocked him off and pinched both my pinkies to the ladder as it buckled. Safety line held though and I lowered him down. Everybody more or less ok.

Fast forward 25 years later to my buddy. He was not so lucky and did not have anyone belaying him. He died later that night. I do what I can now for his wife and kids. RIP Marine.
Sorry for your loss and glad you were there for your brother.

Exactly. You just proved the point
Like a Democrat, you don't have a point. At 67 I cut on a regular basis and would rather have an intelligent experienced 70 YO running a saw for me than a 30 YO inexperienced individual who thinks he/she is bulletproof because they are young. If you run a saw, have run one for years and you are made it to 70 YO, you have proven that you know your limitations. If you stay within those limitations and ask for help when you need it, gas & oil up and cut away. BTW, young folks can learn a lot from those older than 50. One of those lessons being that folks may think you are an idiot but they can't bu sure until you open your mouth.

I own 4 Stihls chain saws and 1 Stihl pole saw. One of those was left to me by my grandfather and I cut with it for years. I just added a saw carrier to my tractor. What do ya'll think?

Be safe, know your limitations and do not let a youngun tell you that you are "to old" to do something based solely on your age.

Old people are touchy and mean when crossed.

Definitely know your limitations. I won't use a saw while standing on an extension ladder, I won't cut down anything that has a potential for disaster, near a house or fence for example. Not knowing your limitations no matter what you're doing can most definitely shorten your life span.

Once again...just because you can doesn't mean you should.
