I would go AR556, M&P Sport II, or see if Steve at SR Armory can get a hold of a PSA Freedom series rifle close to that.

IF, and only IF you can swing a couple hundred more, it will put you into some better options → COLT OEM series, Sionic's, BCM upper on a PSA premium lower, etc...

Another option for around $650-$675 would be a complete PSA premium rifle. I have had mine for a few years now with around 3,500ish rounds and has been a great rifle.

For $599, yes. For $750, meh.

If OP can find one for $599, would be a pretty descent starter rifle.
