I was force-fed lima beans as a child and to this day can't tolerate them. Just recently as a few years ago got to where I can eat bacon again

I don't like green lima's, but white and the ones they call xmas beans are great..Oh all things are better with bacon!!

I was forced to eat it as a punishment until I'd vomit from having too much in my stomach. I never knew there were different kinds of limas as I avoid them to this day.
I've heard your taste change every 7-10 yrs. I smelled bacon frying a few years ago in a Waffle House. It made my mouth water so hard I ate only bacon on toast. I like bacon now, limas are still no-go
If they taste anything like boiled peanuts I might try them again

I soak them with a few scoops of baking soda.

Just a quick rinse when ready to cook is all you need.

1) beans breakdown and are ready to cook much sooner
2) It makes the beans less gassy for some reason

Another little trick is to put a cup of beans with the juice in a blender and purée the crap out of‘m and stir back in. Thickens the soup without having to put corn starch in.
