Illegal illegal and that is illegal..

Like the local LEO are going to have a clue about NFA laws or new ATF rules.
I'm sure this administration will be sending memo's that require posting to all police departments of the recent updates. That's how you take out your political enemies.

So now that pistol braces are no longer legal (set to be finalized sometime in Dec) to own without registering an SBR..does it really matter what kind of stock is on a <16” AR when it is sold or traded?

Or is it now applicable to sell/trade one without a stock on it and sell/trade a stock separately?

First of all, the rule won't take effect until at least April, so folks can stop panicing for a few months at least.

There are also at least 3 different lawsuits pending on this with a lot of backing, so it may never take effect, or be modified before then.

And it's completely different than the bump-stock rule change. That classified the bump-stock itself as a machinegun, so merely possessing one was a crime.

If this rule goes through and sticks, you can simply remove the brace. For decades the ATF position was that a buffer tube (even padded) was OK, and that won't change.

Having possession of the brace itself can't be a crime since it could be used on a rifle or another pistol configuration that meets their criteria.

It's not the brace itself that's being outlawed, it's the 'totality' of the configuration that is.
