I can't count how many times I have put myself on the ready when hearing a squirrel frolicking in the leaves. Sounds just like a dear. One time I was sitting overlooking a hollow and there was a sharp incline ridge to my left. I was sitting on the ground turkey hunting the day before gun season. I heard what I thought was a squirrel. A couple minutes later a doe appeared from that sharp incline. She just stood there and looked at me like I was an idiot. Well she wasn't wrong. LOL She would not go on for nothing. I even stood up and tried to shew here away. Still just stood there looked at me and started rooting for acorns. Didn't leave for another 10 or 15 minutes it seemed. After about 5 minutes of just looking at her I just left her alone and she eventually wandered off. She could have cared less about me. Now I guarantee she wouldn't have done that the next day when gun season opened. It's like she knew and was saying " Ha Ha you can't shoot me today and that is a shotgun you have there dummy !".Great story. Yep I hate to say it, but most times a deer and a squirrel sound a lot alike to me. So if I don't stay diligent, they'll creep right up on you. I've used that 45-70 bullet with not the best success. Just hasn't been a good brush bullet for me. But the 375H&H has been awesome. Deer that I've shot with the 45-70 projectile have run a distance, but leaving a macabre trail a blind man could follow
Geez man did you do build some scaffolding out there in the woods with all that equipment? This is the only one I have taken this year and it was on public land. So my years been ok
