My mother in law hid money everywhere. As diligent as my wife and her brothers were to look carefully through everything, I’m sure something slipped through.
chances are the person who earned the money is dead. Goodwill is a for profit business so I wouldn’t feel compelled to give it back to them. Not sure what the law says but as stated about, just do what makes you feel good in doing it.
