MRE's a great for fostering that 'out in the wild, on your own survival' experience. Take a kid out for a week with nothing else and it's surprising how much less fussy they get about what they'll eat

When I was in Germany, I was an adult adviser for a "Law Enforcement Explorer" post.

We got C-Rats from our squadron supply. Kids ate that stuff up like it was candy.

And, they woke me up one morning tossing C-Rat cans of peanut butter and jelly into the campfire.
