First Batch of Beer

My experience there is nothing to it. The prep work takes the most time. You have to be super clean when making beer. Everything I read was sanitize, sanitize and then sanitize again just to make sure, haha. That take the most time because the equipment does have some smaller nooks that must be sanitized. I used a weak chlorine solution but there are a lot of acid sanitizers out there as well. The actual brewing was a piece of cake. As Tom Petty put it "the waiting is the hardest part".

Poured one up last night and this is what she looked like. beer in glass.jpg

sometimes with extract brewing if you add the extract near the beginning, it will "carmelize" and darken the beer a bit more than the ingredients might suggest. Look around online at some of the "late extract additions" or using more water with your boil (I usually do 4 gallon boils, and add 1/2 of the extracts later in the boil (15-20 minutes from flame out) to keep the beer lighter. Not as important with darker beers but if you are trying to keep the beer light (low SRM) it helps a bit.

looking good though!!!! :)
