Come On People, Remember Our Pets...

Midnight curfew on fireworks July 3 & 4 up here. 10:00 p.m. sounded like MadMax. By 11:30, all was quiet on the homefront.

Still haven't seen the cats.

seems that pets, like some folks, have been getting "softer", back when I was growing up Dogs and other animals weren't used as excuses to take them everywhere, and if they didn't like loud noises, they'd hide somewhere, then be over it. Heck my old dog got shot, run over and healed nicely and he'd chase skeet while folks was shooting at em over his head. Back then, all without those several K$$$, surgeries vets, Docs and all those alphabet syndromes erryone got nowadays.

My little Dixie wasn’t bothered too much by the fireworks, she was more curious than anything but she’ll do a u-turn and come back in the house if one goes off when she’s trying to pee. She’s only 40 lbs but full grown and nearly fearless but goofy too. lol

Our last dog before Dixie (Finlay) was a different story though. Got him in October of 2009, didn’t really think anything about it the following New Years Eve because the Chows & Huskies we had before him didn’t give a crap about fireworks. New Years Day Finlay was gone, we searched everywhere for him for 3 days and even had flyers posted up about him and still couldn’t find him. That 3rd night my son stepped out back for something and there was Finlay fast asleep in his dog house covered in mud. I never left him outside again on a fireworks holiday after that, he would pace the floors and shake like a leaf till he would wear himself out and finally just pass out asleep. He was 115 lbs but the most timid dog I’ve ever seen. Scared to death of children and men except me & my sons. Poor guy passed from cancer in February of last year, we got Dixie in May of last year. Finlay wasn’t even two years old in this first pic. I miss my gentle giant...
