Any serious shark guys on here??

Got a kindred spirit here...

Off the beach:
1. A Big Reel - Senator 12/0 or 14/0, even a 16/0 (but they are collector's items now). Lever drag reels of the same size if you have the $$$
2. Big Line - #130 Mono or at least #80. Braid can't handle the abrasion of sand bars.
3. A Big Rod - a 80 or 130 lbs class trolling rod (if you have a way of fighting out of a chair). If a chair is not feasible, then a stand-up rod & a serious rod belt & harness.
4. A kayak to get the bait in at least 15' of water, if possible.
5. Bait - Bonita is probably the best shark bait, but crabs and baby sharks will often eat it. Sting rays or small sharks as bait will last longer on the hook and work well for large sharks. Almost any fish will do if Bonita, rays and small sharks are not available. (I've never been able to get anything to eat jack crevalle, however)
6. Leader - at least 10 feet of braided leader with a snap swivel, then another 3-4' of big single strand. The law now might be a big circle hook, but either way at least a 12/0 very good quality hook.
7. Sinker - if current is taking your bait up or down the beach (which is usually is) use a big pyramid sinker, wrapped onto the swivel connecting the mono to the leader. Use thin copper wire so it will beak-away during the fight,

Good luck. There is no shortage of sharks on the GA coast.

(If the water was clear NOBODY would swim here!)
