Nutria ?
The nutria looks like an unusually large rat. It has coarse brown outer fur and soft gray under fur, which is called nutria. It is distinguished from other species by webbed hind feet, a white muzzle, white whiskers, and large orange incisors. Female nutrias have nipples on their flanks so they can feed their young in the water. Adults range from 16 to 20 inches in body length, with 12 to 18 inch tails. The average adult weighs between 8 and 16 pounds, but some specimens weigh up to 37 pounds.

Had a good friend who was maintenace manager for a small town in south MS who shot them daily in the town's sewage lagoon. They were very large and ugly. Used a 22 Hornet rifle and had loads of fun, sometimes blasting up to 10 a day. Always let an underling go out in the jon boat and pick them out of the nasty water. Thanks.

In NE GA? Never heard of them here. He has others of a large Racoon that looks to be a third of this one's size. It probably is a young hog but just looks very odd. The face itself sure looks like an Opossum.

Definitely hogs in Northern Oglethorpe. Even more so with the cropped picture it looks like a juvenile hog.

We definitely have our share of hogs here in Oglethorpe County, but I've never seen one with a tail like that one.
