The military has a lot more to consider than just the best performance of a weapon in a specific situation.

I've tried to have a simple conversation about this, but you insist on coming after me with the attitude that I think I'm a know it all as part of your defense. That's has nothing to do with a conversation about the merits of an SBR compared to a full length rifle. You've done it repeatedly even though I've pointed it out to you. OK.

I think the most likely reason you are unwilling to have a real conversation about this is because you have probably spent a crap load of money on weapons for the sake of being tacticool and can't stand the idea that it was money wasted.

Early on, someone else said the reason they have SBRs is because that's what they want. That is a great reason and no further justification was needed.

Yea know what you mean that 18 X 24 gong looks like a postage stamp at 500 meter but I can still hit it most of the time with irons

1X4 is no problem after you know your hold fro the bullet drop

I can't use irons because I can't see the front sight clearly unless I have corrected my vision to the point I can't see the target at all. That's why I use scopes. They can be adjusted so the reticle and target seem to be two dimensional and I can see both clearly. Even with handguns and close range targets I now have to rock my head back so I'm looking through the correct portion of my glasses to see the front sight well enough for precision shooting. Fortunately, it's not so bad that I have to do it for combat practice.

I never asked for evidence about ammo, I merely expounded upon mkhotrod said about the mils max effective ranges. I never said they couldn't shoot further at all nor the practicality of it at any ranges.
