For those interested in Pistol Caliber Carbines...

Finally found time to shoot my Henry X .357 on the chronograph. Velocities are listed below for a few of the rounds I had on hand. All numbers are the average of 5 rounds fired through a Shooting Chrony at 10 feet. You should be able to look the factory published pistol length velocities for comparison.

Velocity and energy for
17.4" Henry X 357Mag

Hornady Critical Duty 135gr 1582fps 750ft#

Speer GoldDot 125gr 2104fps 1229ft#

Hornady Leverlution 140gr 1689fps 887ft#

Georgia Arms DeerStopper 158gr 1773fps 1103ft#

Winchester Silvertip 145gr. 1832fps. 1080ft#

Looks like a good round for close range deer hunting (like most of us do). Thanks for taking the time to do this and putting out this data.
Thanks and I agree, it is a great deer round in a fast handling little rifle. I should have also noted, I shot the same rounds through my Rossi Ranch Hand with a 12” barrel and achieved almost identical results.

I'm getting right at 1,800fps from a 158XTP out of my marlin 1894. It's a game changer compared to a revolver!
It certainly is, the .357 has always been regarded as the standard for a man stopping pistol caliber but that extra length and velocity turns it into a great close range big game cartridge.
