2010 Honda Fit died while driving 45mph. Just shut off and had to hard steer to the side

The alternator is designed to keep the car running if the battery is bad. Plus he said it restarted after a few minutes with no issues. A bad battery wouldnt allow a restart if it had died during driving, it would need a jump.

We had something similar happen once to our 2004 Civic. Never happened again over a period of 15 years (sold in 2019). Driving on highway, straight & flat stretch, engine died, needles dropped, lights out. Came back on almost instantly, and kept driving. Another car was passing us when it happened, almost as though there was some sort of electrical interference.

I still vote for the ignition switch.

Symptoms are the same if she would have turned the key off while driving.

Honest question, could she have hit the key and not realized it while messing with her phone or doing anything besides just driving? Just a thought

A heavy keychain with lots of junk on it will cause that too.

This is a known issue with these cars. Whenever a large manly truck, eg Superduty, goes by they shutdown in fear....
