To put it simply, most people suck.
Please don’t take my post the wrong way.
You literally asked, “how do you all handle this?”
My answer was: Keep moving. There’s nothing else you can do about it, per the rules.
Yes, I agree with you. People shouldn’t say “I’ll take it!” without meaning it, but unfortunately, it happens.

It’s mostly us older folk (and it seems we are frequently and derogatorily referred to as boomers) that seem to notice these behaviors. And although some members dismiss this activity, I really don’t think it’s a reflection of youth, societal attitudes, etc.
But I do absolutely think it’s a reflection of character. Some of us have it, and some don’t.
When I was an officer on active duty one of my very fine mentors had some sage advise about how to behave, lead, etc
