Youth load- turn your 308 into a 300 BO

For some reason I never got a BO. I have youth guns in 30-30, 243, 7mm-08, 308 & a 6.8 AR. They all generate more recoil than 8lbs - the 6.8 is on the line but rather keep her in a bolt gun.
My buddy’s grandson killed 2 nice bucks & a doe last yr with the BO- 1 shot drops in the shoulder. Sold me on the slow Barnes TAC-TX. Those bullets barely fit in a 308 case at 2.850” OAL which is what the mag length was. Hopefully I’ll post pics of her with a few deer this year.

What rifle had the mag length of 2.85"? A bolt gun I would assume.. I kinda second your feelings on .243, it's great on paper... But not so much on Big Mulies I was after as a kid growing up in Eastern Washington. .243 is the minimum allowed up there.

I have had awesome results on penetration and expansion tests using Trailboss and Hornady's 30395's shooting subsonic. They're 30-30 FTX bullets, for better and more reliable expansion at lower 30-30 velocities. Awesome accuracy as well. I tried them from 1,080 to 2,700 out of a 18" gas gun. Pictured was caught in 3rd gal. @ 50yd 1,550ish. Perhaps you could try these 135gr FTX's
