1962 WAS BETTER
Not for me. On a ship headed to Germany with 2500 troops like sardines. Got to Germany and that year, there was snow so deep it was miserable, especially for a Florida boy.The Army was very strict back then and we spent a majority of time in the woods and on Alert. The Cold War was hot at that time. Otherwise it was just wonderful.

In 1959, Sears & Robuck had a barrel in the sporting Goods section filled with surplus M1 Garands for $9.95, a sale of ammo 30.06 was a penny a round, I bought one with a 100 rds. I was in High School, no questions asked, paid cash, when I got home my Mother's exact quote was, "Don't shoot the damn thing in the House":thumb:
