No, but if ammo availability is an issue, you need to have a common enough caliber. I like 22PPC, but I cannot buy it off the shelf, so I do not use it.

Last few ammo crisis's I have seen left all the hunting calibers on the shelf and all the military ones were gone.

IMO either one is really a close in, urban fighting weapon. If you want to reach out with accuracy AND power, go .308 or better with an AR10. Nothing say's GOTCHA! like a sizzling hot .308 through the forehead.

Yep. That was the best choice at the time in the 1990s. Note that it's pined rather than threaded because it was during Brady. I could change it, but it would screw with the barrel harmonics and I could lose accuracy.

I actually agree that the AR10 should be our primary battle rifle and that the 5.56 is underpowered. Especially with NATO ammo. The reason I have the AR15 is because it is our primary rifle, so ammo and parts are a lot more available than the AR10.
