Yes, I cut it down and recrowned it last week. Still pinging targets at 850 yds. Haven't tried any further yet. I wanted something a little more portable than my 24" barrel Remy.

Old school long action savage 110 flat top in 7mag. Choate machine stock, #8 contour McGowan barrel and a IOR Valdada 10x. Longest I’ve shot it out to is 500 yards but the Elbert Co gun club is where I normally go and it’s a 400 yard range. It loves 175 SMK with 66.5 grains of Retumbo

I've been testing 185gr up to 850 yds, so far it's been decent. Anything beyond 600 yds I typically use Federal 190 or Hornady 195 grain. Next I want to test 220 grain Sierra MatchKing when I get beyond 1k.

I went to Designated Marksman school in the Marines but that was 13 years ago and we didn't engage beyond 800m. I'm no Pro, so if anyone has suggestions feel free to share.

Cool.

I often think about how cool it would be to buy a nice bolt gun and try long range. But I know the novelty would wear off with being restricted to small range distances.
