Fav oil? Depends on what I'm lubing up. Solvent? Depends what I'm "solving"
Can't beat trans fluid and acetone for penetrating lube.
Use 3in1 for honing, cutting oil.
Strikehold for rust prevention
Brakecleaner to do everything from stripping paint to cleaning goo.
Lacquer thinner when brake cleaner doesn't work.
Mineral spirits for light duty and to avoid damaging finishes.

I still use dish soap and water in the toilet for BP. If it's SS, its going in the dishwasher.

Eezox is the best rust preventative you can find for an oil... period .. not really much in the way of lubrication though so I only use it for storage


Mobil one synthetic tranny fluid works very well all by itself for a general oil add a bit of Lube guard to it and you have a great lube

Mobil one gear lube mixed down with a bit of M1 0-20 works very well for a heavier oil( smells though)

the Lubriplate products mentioned in Cunningham article work great but are a bit hard to find at times.

MSC will carry them most of the time..

Mobile 1, 0W-30 has worked great for me as a lube, one quart per lifetime.

I use about anything for cleaning from front disk break cleaner to blast off the crud to Hoppes, Kroil, Shooters Choice, and RemOil for cleaning.
