What have you reloaded today?

Finally got over covid and got to work. Glad to be back at the bench and closer to the range. I ended up with a great group out of this load and hoping it wasn't a fluke. I'll figure it out within 50 for sure though.

Speaking of SMK’s

I got a little baggie of some 77gr SMK’s and loaded up a
ladder group for late next week.

I ran the pulled projectiles in the wet tumbler with steel pins for about 15 min to knock off the powder dust and residue before loading them up.

I’ve got a lot of powder options but wanted to start with this powder and document for later. Not looking to clone a hot load, looking for speeds around 2500fps that group well. I’ll crony them to compare with other powders later.

223 Remington
21.3 gr / 21.5 gr/ 21.7 gr/ 21.9 gr VV N135
77 gr Sierra Matchking
CCi 400 SRP
FC Cases
1.750 Case Length
2.255 COAL instead of the 2.260

I like the 77 gr smk's, they're really accurate out of my ar when i do my part. I load them to 2.259 and havent had any issues. Ive loaded them with varget and blc2 with good results.

Guthrie Guthrie yes sir that Varget and BLC2 are great!

I was pressed for time and used a progressive press to seat the individual charged rounds. The problem with the progressive is a little plate wobble and I went with a little deeper seat to average out and still work in the mags. If I set it to mag length I would have to adjust every single one each time haha

My T7 press is off to the side but wasn’t set up and that’s what I’ll use after I narrow down the test loads here shortly.

Yeah i understand that, my lee classic turret definitely has a little play in it but im able to get +/- 1 thou luckily. Its a good press for what it is though.

I like the 77 SMKS as well. I got a nice load worked up using WC732 24.6gr 2,,490fps SD 24 in my 1:7" 14.5" guns easily MOA and better. I worked up the load @ 2.255" but looking at my notes, the OAL gauge says 2.420" for the my shorty's.

I should put together some (3) 18" guns I've had sitting in a box for about 6 months now.. Using some "modified" (opened face) stainless steel mags I made recently, that allow you to seat to Mag well length.. which is roughly 2.400"ish
I bet I could safely get to 2,800fps in the 18's. Drops below 1,000ft lbs just after 150yd.Super-sonic until 890yd..
It kinda sucks though, since I started with the 300 HAM'Rs this year, the .223/5.56 just hasn't gotten much attention

I recently found a HAM'R load that's right at 1,000ft lbs. @ 300yd! and is super to 750yd. Verified B.C. based off velocity readings at known distances. That's in a 16.2" barrel. As far as I can tell there might only be 2 other bullets that can beat it.
Bigger holes, more muzzle energy, more carried energy, and the same if not less powder.. I guess that's why I built some :)

I’m doing prep work before playing on a friend’s Rock Chucker on Saturday. This is 500 pieces of 9mm brass that’s are primed and ready to go. They’ll be loaded with Brass Monkey 150gr flat points. I’m still debating loads, but am leaning towards around 3.0gr of TiteGroup.
