I usually just smile or smirk depending on what wild tails those types are telling at the moment. Only time I spoke up was when a young tattooed kid working the gun department at Walmart was trying to brag to a girl how he personally killed a dozen kids and women that were "terrorist bombers". I politely asked what unit he was in and MOS then as he stumbled through his BS answer I let him know mine. I told him he was lying and discrediting the military,. He said he was just joking and tried to apologize. I went to find the manager and the kid was long gone when I got back. Guess he got fired, never saw him again.

Apparently the OP seems to believe that the young man in the long hair and fedora was attempting to pass himself off as having been in the military due to the placement of his tags outside his shirt and his choice of haircut and cover.
