It may work besides the fact that it will absorb water if the ground is wet/damp. It will probably get pretty dirty fairly quick and not be able to just be brushed off. They're heavy due to the padding, and will not stay rolled and or folded on its own.

I have one and I like it. Enough padding without too much bulk. Metal hardware and comes in multicam.
