Shipping Gun Stuff

Cliff Notes:
Handguns - Common Carrier (most require overnight) to FFL (put the buyer's info and the file copy of the receiving FFL in the package)
Rifles, long gun receivers and shotguns - pack carefully and try USPS Priority Mail. Same info included as above.
Ammo - Diamond ORM-D label on box via UPS posted at a UPS Hub (Not a third party vendor)

Ammo must go by land, no air without hazmat and forms.

There are exceptions to many of the rules but you need to be careful. You can ship a rifle out of state to yourself, someone in c/o for yourself (they can't open it), an SOT/gunsmith, or the manufacturer through the USPS without an FFL on the sending side. When you ship it to yourself or c/o for yourself, you don't need an FFL on either end. You can ship suppressors to and from the manufacturer/SOT through the USPS without an FFL. You really need to research your specific situation each and every time.

If you have the option, ship a rifle with the stock off. You will wind up paying way less to ship the shorter box. A well padded 26" barrelled action fits in the USPS triangle mailing tube you can order from them for free. Many of the clerks at the counter at the post office have no idea what they are talking about. I have found it helpful to print out the relevant rule before heading there.

First thing you must be aware of is anything out of state MUST go thru an FFL dealer, no exceptions unless it qualifies for a shipment to an C&R holder. Does not matter if you are shipping to a relative, etc.
Not to complicate matters...Technically you can ship modern long guns to YOURSELF out of state but they can only legally be opened by you.

The counter morons in Macon have 68 I. Q. s. Truly mouth breathing morons.

You can ship long guns and short guns to anyone who can legally own the firearm, and is a resident of the same state as you are WITHOUT going through an FFL.

Good luck finding any of the jailhouse lawyers on ODT who will do it.
