Seeking S&W Information

Nice looking Smith's. The two with the diamond in the grips may not have a model number. Know the calibers which should be on the barrel. Check out the S&W forum, lots of info and folks that can tell you all about your guns. You may want to have the serial numbers ready as well, usually on the bottom of the grip. From what I know the longer barrel is a pre model 10 , 4 or 5 screws, the snubbies I cant really tell much, the flat latch gun will be a pre model, maybe a 36 or 37 if a 38. The one without a diamond should have a model number.

An update for those interested:
One of the snubs is a Model 36 Serial #J320748
The second snub has no model number stamped Serial # 100996
The 4” also has no model number stamped Serial # C. 118382

The gurus on the S&W Forum add:

The J320748 is 1975-1976. Model 36

The 100996 is 1957 Chief's Special, pre-model 36

The C118382 is 1948-1951. M&P .38 Specail Pre-model 10

Yep, and I'd guess that the K-frame revolver wasn't built in 1948, because I doubt the company produced over 118,000 of them in the the first year they used the "C" prefix (which is itself part of the S/N). Probably 1949, the 2nd year of production for the C-series guns (which ran up to 999,999 by the end of 1967).

The folks at S&W Forum agree... most likely shipped in 1950.
