My family has been in ga for about 300 years and we call them crappie.

Before my Dad passed in 2004, we would go to Clarks Hill this time every year. We would fish for a week and catch hundreds of crappie! Trolled 8 lines with his hand made jigs. His friend used to say he could catch them in a mud puddle. Would give anything to have one more trip with him. Good luck boys! Load em up!

Actually either is correct but 'sock-oh-lay' is indeed the more common pronunciation in God's country.

In Michigan they are Black or White Specks...for Speckled Bass. Thru the ice is the best!
