S&W J-frame

It appears that the Bolt (the internal part attached to the Thumbpiece [aka Cylinder Release]) is not retracting out of the way with the cylinder closed. That will block the hammer from moving.

Could be the angle, but looks like that from here.

No cylinder lock on the gun. I thought it could be from the cylinder release because there is some play in it when the cylinder is closed. And like I stated before when the cylinder is out and you hold the release back the gun cycles every time.

So with the cylinder in closed position can you hold back the release and get it to fire? If so then sounds like possibly the pin on the end of the release is broken (or worn) or the one in the end of the ejector rod is worn or missing not pushing the cylinder release back far enough?

With the cylinder in a closed position and manually holding back the release as far back as possible the hammer will drop 1 out of maybe 12 trigger pulls. But it’s not like a release where it would have enough force to hit the striker. It’s almost like it just fall back out of battery.

What is the metal bar in your pic wedged between hammer and cylinder axle strut?

See attached, it's not in this pic.....did someone wedge a hammer block in there?
