Removing rattle can paint from blued revolver?

Got a chance to work on the 999 tonight. Got all paint off except for the tiny slots in the vents on the barrel (working on a tool that will polish). Have a bid on a set of new old stock unfinished target grips. When I get them , I will finish with a full break down to make sure I got all the paint off the edges just out of reach from steel wool.

I am so glad I found one of these classics. P1070469.jpgP1070468.jpg

It appears the paint protected the bluing. These last few pics really reflect the quality blue finish on these fine old revolvers. That 4" gun is really very nice.

Thanks for sharing.

The protection thing may not be that far off. I used to know a guy who did not care what his guns looked like but traded often enough to protect the value. If it was to be a truck/carry gun he would rattle can the whole thing to protect it and acetone/gun scrubber it when he wanted to sell.
