rear brakes on my chevy question

Change the fluid (it's like oil and breaks down) and replace the rubber lines that connect the metal lines to the caliper before you get yourself killed. Brakes are the most important part of your vehicle and the most overlooked or ignored.

Actually it's a highly corrosive hydraulic oil and will always return to it original state. It gets dirty and there in lies the problem. It's why differential oil can be run 150,000 miles and be clear as crystal when drained. It's the dirt and grime getting in through the seals that turns it. Engine oil is the same way. Heat and combustion blow by is what breaks the oil down. In theory oil would last forever if heat, combustion blow by and dirt never entered the equation. Also bearing wear leave tiny metal flakes in it as well.
