Maybe it's just me, I thought this was the killer because it's the only picture of a male and above the killer's name in the article. Turns out it is the victim.

The perp was arrested later that day for no insurance, plates , etc. And was let go.

They later discovered he was their man (likely through prints in truck and he didn't have time to burn it), and they followed up from there.
