My condolences to you and his family.
I have heard anecdotal stories of "the will to live". Once it's gone the patient soon passes. I've heard stories of very sick people not passing until all the out-of-town family members made it to the hospital.

Sorry to hear this Lax, it was good he got to have that moment with those he cared for.
Sorry for your loss. I recently lost my stepfather and was very fortunate have him in my life. My father was also in my life as well so I am doubly fortunate. My stepfather was in my life for over 30 years and he went suddenly but peacefully. It is good to know that they are in a better place and will always be with you in your heart.
Man... sorry about that. He definitely had some damn good friends and neighbors.
