Volunteer and podunk don't always mean bad. Many volunteer fire departments have better response times than most paid big city departments.

No doubt. I work for EMS in Pike Co, which is a volunteer dept. Some of the guys work at paid departments as well. But you're still hoping someone shows on a bad call.

That was never an issue with the volunteer depts I grew up around.

Oconee has a volunteer department and receives one of the highest insurance ratings.
