They were bought to be used. They are made of metal and anything can be fixed. It is a question of being cost effective. Even if the company is around that is no guarantee of repairs or parts support.
 
It is just like a nice old gun. Likely the original company is long gone, but that doesn't stop you from shooting it.
 
I have an old 22 can that's seen a ton of rounds through it. Probably literally by weight. I use it whenever I want to. I know that it's eventually a wear item but as long as I don't explode the tube (serial) I can get it rebuilt buy any number of reputable SOTs.
