I have no idea what the roots are for this but man, it seems very powerful and would give me chills to see something like this in person.

I'm no Johnathan Quayle Higgins but I believe this is the Moari Haka... "Warrior's Cry". Comes from the native people of NZ. For this occasion I would believe they were giving this soldier a warrior's sendoff, the same as any son of NZ who died fighting for her would have had as far back as the native people's history goes.

This is supposed to be the translation (from a NZ football page):
