So I built a new rifle this year. I wanted to share because I am very pleased with the results. I started by finding a tikka CTR here on the trader. I wanted to use the CTR magazine and trigger guard. For those that don’t know about Tikka, their actions are dang near what you get when you buy a $1200 custom action. Slick as glass with improved extractors, ejectors, etc. I then purchased a carbon fiber prefit from international barrels or IBI. This is my second purchase from IBI. I made friends with a few guys from this company through one of my officers from work and found out how absolutely awesome their barrels are. Anyway, 22 inch carbon fiber, 1:10 5r twist. I then took the goodies to Whidden Gunworks down in Nashville, GA. Chip Harnage and John Whidden found me by a new stock through Iota Outdoors that I could afford, and built the gun. End result, 7 pounds and 7 ounces with magazine and sling and bipod rail. I mounted an NX8 2.5-20 in Nightforce rings as well as a harris bipod with larue quick connect. All total I’m at 12.5 pounds bipod and all. I shot it yesterday and got one whollered out hole for 5 shots from federal gold medal March 175s. I used a rear bag and suppressor and bipod, not a vice. Target was at 100 yards. I’m looking for a hunting load now. I can’t say enough good things about Whidden Gunworks or IBI. If you need a new barrel or gunsmithing, these are two great sources.
