Need some more help working on my 1911

Tried that, safety will not rotate downward even when depressed........

So the thumb safety is actually all the way in but it's stuck in the safe position? Keep in mind that until the safety is all the way in against the frame, it can't rotate up or down since it's notched for installation midway between safe and fire. You may have to wiggle the grip safety to help align it assuming the plunger is not blocking it. The pin part of the thumb safety has to align with a hole on the far side of the frame and the spring pushing out on the grip safety may be making that difficult.

Agreed. If it is not fully seated then you are pushing it against the notch and it will not move.

There is about .25 to .50 mm gap between the thumb safety and the frame ....... what could be the cause?

Maybe back up a little by removing the grip safety and make sure the thumb safety goes in unimpeded by itself?
Here's a good looking 1911 assembly tutorial I just found, you may want to take a look at it as well http://firearmsdesigner.com/?p=320

Gentlemen, my thanx to everyones responses; I appreciate it!!!!

Ops checked a-okay,.......now, WTFO? ***EDIT Thumb safety now all the way in, but will not rotate upward to engage / go safe ***

I have been banging/jiggiling/caressing/talking nice to her and all of a sudden ........ uhhhhh, this sounds like porn ...... but, now she works...????????

Seriously now, might be a stupid question here, but, am I just dealing with extremely tight tollerances, or, might I presume that my reinstallation techniques just require a bit more "rattle and roll"??

At this point as I would truly like to know if I FUBARED something, or, if this is just par for the course with a tight-ass 1911 (mind you, I have no experience to otherwise gauge).....

Pics to follow for everyone to judge.......
