My Grandfather and His M1 Garand

I forgot to post this on the ODT C&R forum! CMP forum has enjoyed this pic and discussing the sling and uniform.
This following pic is of my Grandfather SSGT Cal Paynter from Philadelphia. He didn't need no safe space candy a$$ BS the kids need now a days. He was all of 22 years old in this picture. Fought all through Italy and got into Austria at the end of the war.

I am beyond humbled and honored to have known him for so long. He died a hero in 2014. Knew him for 41 years. Became more of a friend than anything.

If there was a way to look up a block of serial numbers I would PAY for it. But I have no way of knowing. That i am aware of. He ended the war with a MP 40 in his hands.

Do any of you know what the honor guard whispers to the families of the fallen? When they hand you the Folded Flag? I do. They say it with feeling and reverence. Its kind of jolting.
