My dad owned 2x 78's. Always heard the 78's were hard to come by...only made like 2k of em or something like that. Dad said he used to could lay 100 ft black marks like it was nothing. VERY cool trucks

Great Trucks. I had one and put 170K miles on the 360 before it blew up on one cold December morning. Replaced the 360 with a 318 from a newer truck. At 270k miles sold it for 1k less than original msrp. Both ran strong, with puling power that you would not believe. I too had mine redone in Candy Apple Red, new oak wood in bed and sides.Down side is that every 100 miles I had to fill it up and add a qt of oil.

There is a 78 for sale on my dads registry page for 16K Looks great and was restored in the early 90's. I think they made about 2200 78's and 5100 79's

That IS cool. My father had the black and gold pinstriped 1978 version with the 360and automatic. Good truck but it took half the morning to get cranked up in the winter time.
