Juneteenth - the new Independence Day

Funny how certain shootings don't get labeled as "mass shootings".

That's because 3 or more people have to die, including the shooter according to the new "standard"

 
I don't know about the rest of you, but I think the Declaration of Independence reads pretty clearly.

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

But...and this is where the professor is really all wet, the next paragraph says:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

In other words, the whole point of declaring indepepence is to secure the right of individuals to have life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

And, the professor's quotes:

"Whereas in the Juneteenth story, some white Americans are the good guys and in some ways, [white] Americans are the bad guys."

Uh...professor...I'm sure you meant:

"Whereas in the Juneteenth story, some white Americans were the good guys and in some ways, [white] Americans were the bad guys."

So, I'm sorry if it took another 100+ years to work out all the details, but slavery was a multi-millenia institution, not easily undone. Had the founders tried to get rid of it in the 18th century, there never would have been a United States.

I guess they'll let anybody teach a college class these days, and call them a scholar, no matter what kind of dumb **** comes out of their pie hole.
