I'm at a point where I need a cc. The extended cab just isn't gonna cut it and give me the room/access I need. I have a ballpark figure of what I'm ok with spending, and then a "if push comes to shove" figure. The "ok with spending" leaves me mostly with 3V 5.4 trucks. I'm a little gun shy of 3V's as they seem to have more issues than the 2V's or the 5.0's.

So do I:

A) Hold out for a clean, low mileage 2V 5.4 cc?
B) Go with a well maintained 3V 5.4?
C) Suck it up and dip into the "push comes to shove" fund and buy a 5.0?

Are you wanting a 4wd or a 2wd? I have a 2014 crew cab 4x4 riding at factory height with 275/55/20 tires and it is getting 14-15 around town and about 18-19 on the highway. It has the 5.0 and 6 speed automatic. I've had no issues at all so far and have been quite pleased with the truck. I have a family of 5 and the truck is roomy enough for all of us. I'd imagine that there will be many 5.0 trade ins to choose from since the Eco-boost 6-banger is gaining popularity.

Definitly suck it up and get the 5.0. I have a 2011 fx4 and its my daily driver. I cant say anything bad about it. I don't know what your price range is, but my cousin has a 2011 lariat 4x4 5.0 for sale with about 60k on it and its like- new clean. He just wants payoff, as he's building a house. PM me for contact info

I've had a 2010 F150 SCrew 2wd w/5.4L auto (bought new) and now have a 2014 F150 2wd SCrew w/5.0L auto (also BN).
Like the '14 5.0L MUCH better!!!
Got 21 mpg on a trip to FL last month (empty)...and 13 MPG on the return home towing 5500 lb car/trailer.

Definitely needs to be 4x4.

Do i need to say avoid the 3v at all cost? I am going to run mine till the wheels fall off because it isn't worth anything anymore. The 5.0 09-14 4x4's hold their value WAYYYY better than the 04-08 5.4 3v.
