I wondered if it was the hex sleeve used to make the slug??Wouldn't that be a paper cartridge?

I've seen a crusty whitworth bullet in a museum (somewhere here in GA), it looked to have been made from a regular bullet mold.
Us pat 1637332 I believe this is the number. There’s a manufacturer name that starts with S. I need to get a better magnifying glass. Using my little girls magnifying glass from a bug collecting kit. There’s a us patent number on it. Does anybody know how to look up a patent number?
No idea, but I'm 99.873% sure it's not a case. It's way too thin and malleable looking to hold a charge for a bullet that big. Also, the fact that it is octagonal, to me, is a dead giveaway that it's not a case. Sure there are octagonal barrels, but I've never ever seen an octagonal chamber. If it’s not a rimfire rifle or pistol, what could it be?
