I have a trophy rifle my grandfather brought home from the war. From the little bit of research I've been able to do, I think it's a type 38 in 6.5 (whatever that is LOL).
My grandfather brought this home from the war, and actually used it to hunt with for a few years. I'm not sure what all he did to it, except for moving the sling from the side to the bottom of the stock (and repairing the "divit" it left behind). Eventually he was able to buy a "modern sporting rifle" for the day (which wouldn't be very modern now LOL) and this hung on the mantle for a few years, then was adjourned to a closet, passed down to me....stuck in my closet, and a few years ago stuck in the back of my safe to collect dust. I forgot all about it. I dug it out and decided to find out what I could about it. This is where you guys come in... I know somebody on here speaks fluent japanese rifle. hahaha
So who can tell me something about this?

Yep it's a type 38 Arisaka, Can you make out any markings on the left side of the receiver right in front of the bolt release lever?
There's a symbol or number (some kind of mark) that I can't make out, and then the numbers 6959 followed by the symbol pictured below.

I'd look on Gunbroker for some completed auctions and take an average.

I did... they're all over the board... From 200 to 2,300. (One sold for 69 bucks, but it was a non functioning trainer) So really the only thing that tells me is at least a couple hundred bucks LOL

Wow! I was thinking at least $400, but then I'm no expert. I think I'd try and find an original stock. But, then if that's the way your grandfather had it and liked it, I'd keep it that way and shoot it!
