Ever noticed the military likes to use the same number letter combination for different equipment just so it is confusing. i.e M1 Garand, M1 CarbineWhoopsie apologies...
He means the F4-U CorsairF4 came in during the early 60's...
I believe he had was in the show on several occasions.Loved that show and knew it was based on a real squadron but don't think I had ever seen the real "Pappy", thanks for posting.

A once in a lifetime historical opportunity and not even realize it at the time just doing his duty.My Grandfather flew with him retired Colonel USMC Silver star, 2 Flying Crosses, he flew the Corsairs. Their photos are on the wall in the Naval air museum in Pensacola. I have my grandfathers footlocker lots of the old squadron photos letters from colonel Greg, and Adm Byrd as well. His sword and a Hamilton navigation watch. Grandma says they were all drunks. My heroes anyways oorah.
