Ran across a late 42 M1 that is all matching except the bolt. it has an SA/EMcF stock (correct for production date) on it, but it is not as tight as I like to see for shooting. The seller has a GAW stock he will swap out if desired. The GAW fits great and finish matches as well as the EMcF, though the cartouches are more faint, but there.

The gun is not pristine, but in USGI "as carried" condition", which appeals to me. Refinished in new stock guns do not appeal to me.

I am not looking or actively buying now, but............

So, is the original stock, or the tighter, later stock more desirable?

I would at least get the original McF stock. I don't shoot my wartime production Garands. Usually shoot my 1950s posties

Cut thin slices of an index card to shim your trigger space in the stock. This will give you a tight lockup...assuming it’s the trigger area that is worn/compressed.

i’ll take the GAW stock....lol

If it has an uncut original op rod I'd swap it out for a postie, they were known to bend or crack and finding a uncut one could be difficult, especially a 42
