The Browning Hi-Power's design was actually completed by Dieudonné Saive with FN. Browning died in 1926, and the pistol was largely produced starting in 1935. The pistol was designed because of a FRENCH request. Hard to imagine the French doing this much right in the modern military age. The staggered magazine design was the first commercial / industrial success for a "high cap" pistol mag, and is still in use today.
