"In a move clearly intended by the Obama Administration to suppress the acquisition, ownership and use of AR-15s and other .223 caliber general purpose rifles, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives unexpectedly announced today that it intends to ban commonplace M855 ball ammunition as “armor piercing ammunition.” The decision continues Obama’s use of his executive authority to impose gun control restrictions and bypass Congress."

They also want to ban body armor for civilians. It seems there is nothing acceptable in this administration's perception of freedom. They want to control the internet too...The list goes on and on...and on...This is a very real threat to all AR owners. M855 ball ammunition is as common as it can be, and yet they have singled it out to be a threat. To who? We know who...The AR is America's rifle. Easily the most popular rifle in our history. Everyone needs to pay close attention to this. Another executive action by the worst enemy a free people ever had.

I won't go into "sporting purposes" and its ignorance as to the purpose and intent our 2nd Amendment. At least an email needs to be generated on this issue. M855 has a steel tip but not a steel core. It was designed to penetrate a common battle helmet. It was not considered a full steel core penetrator and was exempt.

With the popularity of AR pistols they are going after the ammo now due to the handgun clause.

To protect the lives and safety of law enforcement officers from the threat posed by ammunition capable of penetrating a protective vest when fired from a handgun, the Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA), as amended, prohibits the import, manufacture, and distribution of "armor piercing ammunition" as defined by the statute. The GCA, however, allows for the exemption of ammunition that would otherwise be considered armor piercing if the Attorney General determines that the specific ammunition at issue is "primarily intended to be used for sporting purposes." Interpreting the meaning of this statutory language, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has developed a framework that will apply to requests seeking a determination that certain projectiles qualify for this "sporting purpose" exemption.

This will not stop until either the GCA of 1968 is repealed or the BATF dissolved or becomes the BAT.

"sporting purpose" method of stripping individual rights was overturned with the 2008 Heller vs. D.C. decision confirming that our 2A right "is" an individual right rather than a militia right that leftist attempted define as a national guard, created by the state and loyal to the state in a 5 to 4 decision.

So the argument is based upon "sporting purpose" has no foundation or merit to further infringe upon the rights of the people. In fact if the GCA of 1968 is not already being attacked it's just awaiting a "case".

This could be the beginning to the end of the 1968 GCA with the attempts of a government agency attempting to ban common inexpensive ammo for a hugely popular round by claiming "no sporting purpose".


The militia is of the people and people are of the militia, loyal to people and required to enforce a free state in the endeavor to prevent tyranny. End of story folks.

I like your optimism. I would love to see the 1968 GCA drift off into never never land, with nothing to show for it but an irate citizenry.
