What do you think about shellac over the tung oil?Looking good! Tung oil would make that oak pop, but definitely need a protective coat (poly, lacquer, etc.). on the top at least.

I going to route bow ties to hold the slabs together. Going to practice this week.

Lots of practice this week on scrap material. Either way I have plenty of slabs if I screw up.Shellac will give it a much more protective finish. It will also give it a more natural wet look. I'm anxious to see your bow tie work. That's pretty meticulous work but pays nice looking dividends.
