Best Deer Caliber?

30-06 plenty off ammo and will kill anything in North America. But someone will be along to tell you how bad it is in 9 8 7 6 5 4 3........

In some hardwoods through brush, i like lever guns. i like .35 rem, but there is nothing wrong with .30-30, or even a .44 mag lever gun.
if you plan shooting across i field, many calibers with work. i like .270 and 7mm mag.

.308 and .243 will work 99% of the time, but i like one notch up to lock in that clean kill.
in georgia just please stay away from anything with ultra in name

Believe it or not the 5.56x45 was actually the best one shot show stopper out of 3 deer taken with it the farthest travelled from point of impact was 15 yards.

Sounds like plenty of calibers will put one down, so his biggest concern after that is cost and availability. I think he's leaning toward 30-06.

Seriously, can't go wrong with the .30-06. Most common caliber in the country, so you can find ammo just about anywhere. And the loadings for it are very diverse...
