It didn't take off b/c most users know comparatively little about firearms. The average hunter can't hit much past 150 yards, lowers his rifle to look after every shot and loses 20% of the deer he shoots regardless of what kind of cartridge, etc. 30/30s and 30/06s work fine for that. 30/06 is a bit more than is needed for that, really.
No, same bullet diameter, but the 6.8 is designed to work on the AR platform. The .270 is a .270 diameter bullet in a 30-06 case.

correct and knew all that all ready, what I meant was a 6.8 and 270 are almost identical as far as their ballistics and how they perform...
much like a 7.62x39 is very close to a 30-30...

No, the 110 grain bullet from a 6.8 is 400-500 fps slower than a 130 grain bullet from a .270. Bullet diameter is the only thing in common.
Correct.... and after doing some quick research the 270 is a superior round the the 6.8 both have plus and minuses but the 270 outperforms the 6.8 in almost every way...
Except for being compatible with the AR, not as well as the 300blk, but it works.
